About
Caylen Crawford is a music producer and composer for visual media based in the United States and New Zealand. He is also an experienced guitarist and bassist who has worked with industry professionals from around the world.
Growing up in New York in a musical family, Caylen learned to appreciate music at a young age. His mother worked as a piano instructor for many years and his father is the founder and Director of the American Classical Orchestra. He began studying the piano at age 7, to which he soon added seven years of classical cello study. He began playing guitar at age 13 under the guidance of Wil Greenstreet (aka Billy Green) and spent subsequent years performing in reggae, funk and rock bands before developing an interest in jazz.
Caylen studied at the Berklee College of Music and the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM) where he earned a degree in guitar performance. He was a student of Tariqh Akoni, Jody Fisher, Roberto Montero and Steve Gregory. Caylen continued his musical studies at LACM earning a second degree in Music Composition for Visual Media (Film/TV), graduating with the school’s highest honors. His teachers included Martin Davich (ER, Beverly Hills 90210) and Jon Kull (Avatar, Black Panther, Hunger Games). During his studies Caylen scored multiple short films and worked on a documentary project with Martin Davich.

He worked as a music tutor and recording/performing artist in Los Angeles before moving to New Zealand in 2016, where he completed several recording projects while also maintaining a busy performance schedule with several bands. He was the bassist for the Hamilton-based metal band Haast Hunter, the soul/funk band Hin & Co., and the Malcom Barr Big Band.

In 2023, Caylen moved to Northern California where he was the bassist for the Shelley Rusk Band and Brian Nickens, the lead guitarist for the blues band Walkabout Blues, and a mentor to blues guitarist Christian Watts.
Additional artists Caylen has had the privilege of working with include Kibrom Birhane, Melody Tan, Debojyoti Bose, Alejandro Millán, Jonah Nimoy, Etsegenet Mekonnen, Kyla Greening, Shelley Rusk, John Avila, Joe Walker (Patsy Cline), Juan Munguia, Nala Kathleen, and many more.
Caylen Crawford currently teaches guitar, bass and piano, performs in multiple ensembles, creates content for the YouTube channel Lucra Jam Tracks, creates promotional content for the Tomplay app, and writes for Doug Stebleton’s music catalog in Los Angeles which provides music for film and TV studies.
